The oil is running out!!! Welcome ethanol and other similar fuels. Wrong!!!

1) Oil and it’s byproduct, gasoline are a finite resource, that much is true. However, the supply available is not as short term as many politicians would have us believe. There are still vast resources that are currently untapped, some due to cost but many are being held for political and selfish reasons.

2) Ethanol and similar hydrocarbons are expensive and inefficient compared to gasoline, the only reason they are cheaper at the pump is that politicians, misled by bigger commercial interests, have been fooled into giving tax concessions for so called ‘green’ fuels. Fortunately they are starting to wake up. This years shortages and excessive rises in basic food costs have alerted them to the fact that using food producing land to grow corn and cane for fuel production is not the answer. Don’t blame the farmers, they are only responding to demand and growing a crop that makes them a decent profit. Get used to higher priced food and shortages in the short term. Long term there has to be a better solution, and that is my purpose to this blog, share the experiments I’m doing with electronics and non hydrocarbon fuels.

I don’t want to get into politics and the stupidity that surrounds us, but I will ask this. The UK, USA and Venezuela are all oil producing countries. How come Venezuela can sell gasoline at under 50c a gallon, yet in the USA it costs over $4 and in the UK it is now close to $11?? OK, the UK gallon is bigger, 4.5 litres as opposed to the US gallon at 3.8 litres, but it’s still an excessive amount due to the amount of tax the government is raking off the top, and smiling to themselves each time the price goes up.
